The study examines R&D, capital and patents to reveal regional strengths and opportunities, inform decisions and track progress over time.

VelocityTX is helping shape regional priorities, supporting entrepreneurs and bringing new ideas and relationships back to campus.
VelocityTX President & CEO Rene Dominguez joined civic, business and academic leaders in San Marcos for the public launch of the Central Texas Alliance, a coalition spanning 13 counties across the Austin–San Antonio megaregion. The discussion explored infrastructure, workforce and the resources needed to support regional growth, including opportunities to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience through innovation.
Last month, VelocityTX hosted Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones’ Economic Security Advisory Group (ESAG) for a working session focused on San Antonio’s economic future. As a member of ESAG, VelocityTX President & CEO Rene Dominguez helped shape recommendations to strengthen San Antonio’s competitiveness in emerging technologies and support long-term economic growth. The gathering also included group chair Jim Perschbach of Port San Antonio and representatives from Southwest Research Institute, Javilud, Knight Aerospace, Allosense, and Texas Biomed.
VelocityTX COO Jessica Harris served as a judge for LatinTech Pitch 2026 on September 30 during San Antonio Startup & Tech Week. Hosted by the Consulate General of Israel in Houston & the Southwest, the event gives founders a platform to showcase their ideas and connect with investors, mentors and the region’s broader innovation community.
Last month, Brian Peters joined economic development marketers from across the country at the DCI Marketing Summit in Denver. Sessions explored location priorities, AI’s role in community discovery and approaches to place marketing—offering insights aimed at raising San Antonio’s bioscience profile to compete for business, investment and talent.
VelocityTX’s new MOU with the Texas A&M University System outlines a referral framework to connect companies developing trauma, prehospital and disaster-care technologies with testing and validation resources at the Bush Combat Development Complex and other facilities across the system.
Last month, Program Coordinator Turner Rey represented VelocityTX at the AURP International Conference in Dallas, bringing home valuable insights and best practices to inform campus development and strengthen programming.
Last month, we celebrated the arrival of several new faces to the campus: Gongchen Sun and Henry Shu, sponsored through Dane Spencer with Aionik Tech; Israel Jessop of Diatomicinc.com; and GAP-FLEX intern Amy Morales. In October we look forward to welcoming Arnold Estrada of Speckle Health, Virginia Cruse of Military Counseling CSA PLLC, and Chris Dawkins of Metro Media Group/METRO Black SA.
Last month, VelocityTX completed its role as the research institution on MonuMedical’s Phase I STTR for the MiniFuser Extreme, a compact, non-electric, wearable infusion device designed for extreme heat and cold. Working alongside the company, our Innovation Team analyzed how medics, corpsmen, nurses and other providers would use the device, identified tasks where errors could pose the greatest patient risk, and developed measurable safety requirements. The team also designed a later-phase usability evaluation covering cold, gloved and low-light conditions. This work demonstrates the specialized expertise VelocityTX brings to companies developing medical technologies for the realities of military and low-resource care.

VelocityTX is working with Lorenzo Gomez and The Cilantro Diaries to produce For the Neighborhood, a three-part series exploring how Port San Antonio, Brooks and VelocityTX are giving former campuses a second life as job centers. The series features conversations with Jim Perschbach, Leo Gomez and others to explore the tools, leadership and sustained community investment that make redevelopment possible. Now in production, the project connects the story of each place with the opportunities it creates for surrounding neighborhoods.
VelocityTX, San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside and LISC San Antonio submitted the Eastside Access & Infrastructure Initiative plan to city leaders. Shaped by input from more than 100 residents, the plan lays out recommended improvements to better connect Eastside neighborhoods. Read it here >
Last month, the campus came together to say goodbye to summer with one of our favorite traditions: a Hot Dog social. Later in the month we hosted two coffee-themed socials to give neighbors a chance to catch up, meet new faces and strengthen the relationships that make our community thrive.

La Vernia High School seniors explored STEM careers and entrepreneurship during Step Into STEM’s Inside Innovation Experience at VelocityTX. Students competed in a team pitch competition and heard from Powerhouse Therapeutics founder Vincent Pham about the realities of building a company.
VelocityTX began hosting the National Society of Black Engineers, Jr. San Antonio, connecting students with the innovation community. Camps on October 10 and 24 and a board meeting October 11 will build on the partnership, making campus a regular gathering place for the organization.
Vital Signs explores access to advanced therapies and the strengths shaping San Antonio’s bioscience community.
BBG Advanced Therapies COO Adrienne Mendoza brought the heat to Vital Signs with a Hot Ones-style interview featuring increasingly spicy sauces, crispy dogs and a serious mission: making advanced therapies more accessible. The conversation explores cell therapy, blood innovation and how BBG is bringing care closer to home with the world’s first mobile leukapheresis center.
BioMedSA President Heather Hanson stopped by the studio to discuss the relationships, research and infrastructure driving San Antonio’s bioscience economy. With more than 1,800 active clinical trials underway at any given time, the region has a compelling story to tell. Hanson explores strengths in military medicine, biomanufacturing and workforce development—and how collaboration is key to sustaining that momentum.
