Last month, VelocityTX was honored to host the Warm Springs Foundation’s Community Collaboration Speaker Series for a thoughtful discussion about resilience, recovery, and the support systems that help individuals and families move forward after brain injury.
VelocityTX was represented on the panel by Chief Innovation Officer Jeremy Nelson, Ph.D., and was joined by Jackson Smith of Bastion Community; Monica Verduzco-Gutierrez, M.D., of UT Health San Antonio; and Gregory Frey of Avalon Action Alliance.

Interest in San Antonio’s trauma, prehospital, and disaster-care ecosystem is growing among companies outside the region. VelocityTX has recently fielded inbound requests from innovators seeking to connect with the military on a wide range of solutions, including austere-care infusion devices, advanced wound-care biomaterials, and patient-monitoring platforms.
Last month, VelocityTX Chief Innovation Officer Jeremy Nelson attended the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium's Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, where he provided an overview of the organization's role as a federally designated partnership intermediary and our specialized focus on trauma, prehospital, and disaster care.
SBIR/STTR Bootcamp participant MonuMedical was recently awarded a Phase I STTR through the AFWERX program for its MiniFuser Extreme, a disposable, non-electric, wearable infusion device built for austere environments where electronic pumps and gravity IV setups often fall short. As the named research institution on the award, VelocityTX will provide ongoing support services throughout the Phase I study.
Recent leasing activity reflects momentum across the VelocityTX campus. In June, we were excited to welcome Axis Bioventures as a new tenant. Also at the Innovation Center, Belgium-based Valedyn moved into a larger office to support its growth. Together, these tenants add to a growing list of startups working at the intersection of military and civilian healthcare.
In 2021, Carmen [kidney] Health Founder and CEO Andres Gutierrez joined the VelocityTX startup incubator with a vision to bring real kidney care to rural and underserved communities across Texas.
Today, Andres operates seven clinics from Killeen to Brownsville, leading a team of over 50 employees with plans to open additional locations in Houston and Dallas. Catching up with Andres and learning about everything his team has accomplished was truly a full-circle moment, and we couldn't be prouder of his success!

Campus events and partner meetings continue to activate VelocityTX as a place where people come together.
Last month, VelocityTX hosted a variety of campus activities, including a knife-sharpening workshop led by BBG Advanced Therapies' Jared Young, a fresh fruit bar, two food truck takeovers, and a number of partner meetings. These events help activate the campus as a place where tenants, staff, and neighbors can connect.
VelocityTX recently hosted Bexar County Economic & Community Development's Israel Trade Mission Outcomes meeting. Led by Precinct 3 Commissioner Grant Moody, the discussion brought together leaders from across sectors to discuss opportunities for international engagement.
Also in June, VelocityTX welcomed students from the San Antonio African American Community Archive & Museum's Aaronetta H. Pierce Future Preservationist Program, a summer camp for middle- and high-schoolers focused on cultural preservation and community history.
Our Eastside Access & Infrastructure Initiative continues to engage neighbors in the larger discussion around downtown development with recent input meetings at Estate Coffee and the Davis-Scott Family YMCA. Next, we'll consolidate community feedback into an official list of recommendations for city and county consideration.

This month, VelocityTX welcomed its 2026 summer intern cohort: Daniella Cenoz, supporting entrepreneurial programs through Students + Startups; Camden Sims, supporting marketing through Students + Startups; Bhavnika Sriperambuduru, supporting operations through greater:SATX; and Trystan Bartlett, supporting Step Into STEM content creation through greater:SATX.
